Weekend Rains Welcome! Lake Travis Up One Foot

Please visit us on our new blog and website and sign up to receive all the latest postings. Just visit the blog site and look on the right hand side of the page for the sign-up box.

A much anticipated soaking rain that slowly swept throughout most of Texas this
past weekend has brought welcome relief to the state. For the residents of The
Hollows on Lake Travis, it was especially anticipated, as the lake waters have
been down over 40 feet, creating conditions not often seen in the area.

The rain began falling late Saturday night and fell throughout the night for a total of 2 inches in accumulation. The rain that fell on the lake along with the feeding tributaries and run off, caused the drought-ravished Lake Travis to rise a full foot higher than last week.

Patrick Cummins, Hospitality General Manager for The Hollows on Lake Travis stated: “We haven’t seen rain here in so long, we forgot what it looked like! Everybody was
really, really happy that we finally received a substantial amount of water!”
Although there is much more rain needed to make up for the “exceptional drought” that the area has been experiencing, last weekend’s rain was more than a drop in the bucket.

Northshore Marina Update from Billy Neel - Marina Director

Hi Northshore Boaters,

These days the terms extremely hot, dry, and low water levels appears to be in everyone’s conversations. Let us hope the summer is behind us and we can have a cooling off season with some good rain. Even with similar ’09 weather and lake level conditions a lot of boaters still managed to have some fun. There is still 47% of a river/lake still open for recreational purposes.

Our marina is and plans to remain open in the foreseeable future. The deep water under the marina is a huge benefit. The marina distance from shore is pretty well set. The loading area, parking, tram ride, and the access bridge to the marina  all stay the same distance as well. However, the bridge steepness remains to increase with each 5’-10’ drop in lake level. For your convenience, my main goal is to allow the bridge to stay connected to the tram landing and the marina. I agree this is challenging and may not be possible if we reach an all time historical low. But hopefully this doesn’t happen. If it does we will implement some type of boat taxi service from the Old Burnet Rd. boat ramp area. We will let you all know the standards & procedures for this prior to commencing this program.

The Lake Travis lake level is currently at the ’09 low level of 629’. There is and will be limitations involved with coming and going from the marina due to the bridge steepness. I recommend traveling light with carry on instead of the full wagons and dock carts. At this time and in the future you choose to use the full load wagon and cart please be sure to use help and go extremely slow. In the next week or so we will add another steel table and 16’ more of ramp for a lake level descent to 620’. This will help us to off set the bridge steepness for the next 10’ drop. If we get lake level movement in a positive direction you will see a quick turn around in the bridge slant. This would be noticeable at the 635’ level due to the additional components I am in the process to add. There is a chance we may not see the 620’ lake level. LCRA is showing this 620’ level may not occur until the New Year. This may not happen at all. If we stay above 620’ then we will be okay.

FYI- the Ship Store is staying open during October on Sat. & Sun. only (9AM-& 6:30PM).

Come on Rain,

Billy
